Why this story?
This story and every colourful emotion in it is for everyone who is in search of a sense of belonging. A different language, a different country, a different ability, a different community, can make us feel confused, or out of place. We could have scattered or broken roots. But there's so much more to us than the things we are born with! Exploring new pieces of his identity, Bruss, the panda, finds a new definition of home. Is it a children's book? Yes! But it's also a book for adults...
Why diversity?
We move cities, and countries. We bring cultures together as neighbours, friends, and partners. We raise children with evolving traditions. We celebrate what was and what can be, together. We try to widen the horizon of 'normal.' Who we are is changing and growing, and that can leave us feeling lost, map-less. My work, the words, the paintings, the songs, and the sillies, is trying to be a small part of that map when we're looking for identity and home.
